Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology

The Section Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology was initiated by the Working Group Clinical Toxicology

The Section Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology is concerned with strategies, methods and organisation of clinical-toxicological analytics. It organised 10 mini-symposia „Update Clinical Toxicology: Clinic and Laboratory“ at the Monastery of Banz, most recently in 2017.

Concept for the work of the new section:

Although the topics of TDM and toxicology already constitute a significant segment of the continuing education catalogue for clinical chemists and specialists in laboratory medicine, these topics have so far been relatively neglected within the DGKL. The division should provide a space for intensive cooperation, exchange and broadening of interest in these topics in the DGKL.

Currently important points include concepts and statements concerning

  • Monitoring of antibiotic therapy
  • Monitoring of psychotropic drugs
  • Monitoring of cytostatic therapy
  • Individualization of pharmacotherapy
  • Ensuring comprehensive toxicological analysis
  • Standardization of drug analysis
