The DGKL
Laboratory medicine: Confirming diagnoses and supporting treatments – quickly, efficiently and correctly.

About the DGKL e. V.

The German Society for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine e.V. (DGKL) is the scientific association for laboratory medicine in Germany. As a member of the European Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (EFLM) and of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC) the DGKL represents Germany in the field of laboratory medicine in Europe and worldwide. The society was formed in 2003 through the merger of the German Society for Clinical Chemistry (DGKC) and the German Society for Laboratory Medicine (DGLM) and currently has more than 1,100 members.

The reliability of medical laboratory examinations is essential for patient care. For this reason, the DGKL, as a non-profit medical-scientific association, is committed to the scientifically sound and technically founded further development of quality assurance in laboratory medicine. Through close cooperation with the Reference Institute for Bioanalytics (RfB), closely following the guidelines of the German Medical Association for the Quality Assurance of Medical Laboratory Examinations (Rili-BÄK), we support the continuous improvement of the effectiveness of this recognised and efficient set of rules for comprehensive patient care, which we also helped to develop. In addition, as part of its membership in the Association of Scientific Medical Societies (AWMF), the DGKL actively participates in the preparation of indication-specific guidelines for the appropriate use of laboratory tests.

With its Foundation for Pathobiochemistry and Molecular Diagnostics, the DGKL especially supports young scientists in research and development projects in the field of pathobiochemistry and molecular diagnostics. In a Young Scientists Academy funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), young scientists are being specifically trained in how to carry out independent research projects.

The members of the DGKL actively participate in the recruitment and development of junior physicians through their commitment to the training of specialists in laboratory medicine. In addition, the DGKL offers a curriculum for further training to become a clinical chemist to qualified natural scientists and physicians.

Further detailed information can be found in the statement of the executive committee on the "Contribution of the German Society for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (DGKL) to Quality Assurance in Medicine".
